Using different features in 3D studio Max

This is an example of using the "lathe" tool in 3D Max. You draw a complex shape in Adobe Illustrator, and import it in and then turn the 2d shanp making into a round object. Using Illustrator is a good method of creating an object with complicated paths, as 3D Max uses very complex paths and doesnt create such a good result.

My first visual in Studio Max

This is my second time using 3D Studio Max, and this is what I created! Can you guess what it is? i hope so.. its quite basic, and its meant to be a banana. Im slowly learning much more about this software, its fun as its quite complex and a challenge which is good!

Lost Land Of The Volcano

I had research the usual sources of infomation, but I then thought; how do I normally learn about natural history..? Easy, I watch tv, and I remembered a short series I watched on the discovery channel about a Volcano which holds an abundunce of the rarest creatures on the earth. The team of ornithologists, naturalist, and scientists visited the remote island of New Guinea, and at its centre is one of the least explored corners of the planet. The exploded volcano had turned extinct, and now it is a huge bowl of dense forest with cliff walls, keeping all the species stuck inside creating its own unique ecosystem. No humans have ever been there before, animals are less scared of humans as not ever being hunted and countless new species were found in the first few days...Amazing.

My start to biodiversity research

I started as most people do with initial research; I looked on the web for images, sites, texts or blogs to do with diversity. I found many inspiring images which show the most spectacular creatures and all there different biological approach to surviving in a given ecosystem. I am creating more mood board as I think for this particular project it really brings together colour and composition together to show diversity in an appropriate way.

Being introduced to 3D Studio Max

I had my first experience with studio max in my first lecture. First impressions are obviously a bit overwhelming with the content, but after the first hour I learnt a lot and i am starting to get creative with it already which is great. I love learning new software, as at first you have no clue of how to complete tasks, but you can quickly pick up the skills to create original work. I am now clear about how we are designing stamps in the 3D space, we will just be taking a screen shot of the 3D design, and applying it into a stamp format.

Biodiversity Mood Board

Hi, as soon as I got home and got started on my mood board!! I wanted to get stuck in and get some ideas flowing and do some research. It's an initial idea for my mood board and a quick draft I composed in Photoshop, i may update it soon though if I don't like it! I tried to put in quite a bit of colour, so i had to balance the page to keep the eye moving. I added a human habitat "The Home" as many people miss this out, but it is indeed very much a part of biodiversity, and itself impacts it greatly.

I just recieved my brief..

In my 3D modelling lecture I had my brief given to me today, and it seams pretty interesting and an orignial project. It is to design the graphics on 3 postage stamps, premoting the theme of biodiversity. Stamps!! "How boring" I hear you say, but I guess its not going to be your usual standard boring examples, i should be able to pack a fair bit of colour in there wilst aiming for diversity! After the first year of using Photoshop/Flash and getting to grips with aiming a design at a specific target, im looking forward to this years graphical challenges, also I think we will be using 3D Studio Max which I havent used before.. Im not sure how we will created a stamp design in a 3d package.. I will have to find out about that beofre i get started! But anyhow I like learning new software and taking challenge so it should be fun!
